Directory Policy

What gets listed, what never does, and how to get a listing removed. One contact rule covers everything on this page: TORDIR has no email — no mailboxes, no mailing list, no exceptions. Every report, removal request, and legal notice goes through the SimpleX contact.

Listing Standards

TORDIR lists legitimate services only: privacy tools, news and media mirrors, libraries and archives, communication services, search engines, and whistleblowing platforms such as SecureDrop inlets. A listing is earned, never bought — there are no paid placements and no advertising. Every listing must answer a live Tor v3 handshake, and listings are graded into the two verification tiers described on the methodology page. A service that stops answering, changes hands, or stops matching what it was verified as loses its listing in the next published build.

Zero-Tolerance Exclusions

The following never appear in this directory, in any category, under any framing:

Listings are screened against these classes before publication and re-screened as the directory is rebuilt. Screening is a filter, not a guarantee — if a listing slipped through, report it and it comes out.

Delisting & Removal Protocol

  1. Message the operator on the SimpleX contact. Lead with the full .onion address from the listing.
  2. Say what is wrong: the service moved, was compromised, changed hands, violates the exclusions above — or it is yours and you want it out.
  3. Operator requests are honored on the operator’s word. Third-party reports are checked against the live service before the next build is published.
  4. Safety reports — abuse material, active phishing, malware — jump the queue ahead of routine removals.

Removal takes effect in the next published build and in the signed address bundle, which is the public record of what the directory currently stands behind.

DMCA & Legal Notice

TORDIR is an index of links to third-party services. It hosts none of the listed services’ content, and a listing is neither an endorsement nor a republication. If you believe a listing links to material that infringes your copyright, send a notice through the SimpleX contact containing:

Accuracy note: TORDIR has no email address and no registered DMCA agent at this time. The SimpleX channel is the designated route for notices until that changes, and this page will be updated when it does.

Secure Reporting — PGP

For sensitive reports, encrypt your message to the directory’s signing key and paste the encrypted text into the SimpleX chat. The same key signs the published address bundle.

No Email. Ever.

TORDIR operates no mailboxes. If anyone emails you claiming to represent this directory, it is not us. The one and only contact channel is SimpleX.
